Opals
This iridescent gemstone, which is made entirely of silica, occurring in spheres on top of each other, interacts with light very differently giving it its iconic flash of color. Opal gets its name from the Greek word “Opallios” and contains about 1-2 % of water within its composition. This gem comes in varying colors from warm reds to cools blues with prominent flashes of color, which tend to have sky-high prices. The fire opal variety gets its name from the warm glow seen in the gem. Mined in regions of Australia and Mexico, opals can now be seen in fine luxury jeweler because of its unmatched beauty.
