Of all the crimson beauties, Burmese rubies are known to command the highest prices because of their incomparable color and exceptionally soft appearance. Stones from the Mogok region in Burma have been referred to as “pigeon blood” rubies, because of its strong resemblance to the deep red colors seen in blood. The Burmese previously believed the stones were drops of blood from the heart of mother earth. Mined from the 6th century AD, rubies have been woven into the culture of the south east Asians. With the high demand for Burmese rubies, gems from other sources must not be confused as they have their own beauty although originating from other sources.
