Blue Green Indicolites

This deep blue almost neon colored gem comes from the family of tourmalines. Also known as ‘indigolite’, the gem-like all other tourmalines is strongly pleochroic and displays a deep dark blue in one angle and a lighter more beautiful blue across the other. This is the reason why cutters have to plan well in advance to be able to get the best saleable color out of the rough crystal. Indicolite is an extremely rare variety of tourmalines and occasionally reaches the 2 carat mark. Mined in Brazil, Mexico, and Africa the gem can also have traces of copper present within it, which could be very close to Paraiba colored tourmalines.
