Rare alexandrites owe their color-changing abilities to a unique mixture of trace elements. It takes the skill of a gem cutter to correctly orient the crystal and carefully consider each facet to best display their colorful transformation. This untreated, natural alexandrite weighs 1.59 carats and is oval shaped, achieved with a brilliant/step cut, resulting in a gemstone with custom measurements of 7 x 5.9 x 4.85mm and no color zoning. It was mined on the island of Madagascar. This loose alexandrite changes color from dark brownish green in daylight to dark brownish reddish purple.
